How it works
Four steps, repeated over time.
- 01PhotoStraight-on, neutral expression, even light.
- 02MeasureYour abdominal depth with a caliper, lying down.
- 03ScoreA provisional V0–V7 category, with the measurements from your check-in.
- 04TrackRepeat both at regular intervals to build a visual timeline.
The VFS scale
Eight categories, V0 to V7.
| Class | Meaning |
|---|---|
| V0 | Very low |
| V1 | Low |
| V2 | Mild elevation |
| V3 | Moderate elevation |
| V4 | High |
| V5 | Very high |
| V6 | Marked elevation |
| V7 | Extreme elevation |
Provisional screening categories, not a diagnosis. The VFS isn’t yet validated against MRI, and how it’s calculated will improve as more data comes in.
How to measure
Lying down, the same way every time.
- 01Lie flat on a firm surface, knees bent.
- 02Place the caliper at the level of your iliac crest, the top of your hip bones.
- 03Read it at the end of a normal breath out. Don’t suck in or push out.
- 04Take two readings. We’ll average them.
- 05Use the same position, landmark, caliper and breathing every time.
